We love God. We love football (in that order). So it would make sense to try and mix the two together, which we have done.
We now have three football teams at re:generation, two mens’ teams who play in a local Churches league and a girls’ team who train and play in tournaments.
This is one of the ways in which we try and take Church out of a building, encouraging a counter-cultural attitude on the pitch by supporting each other, keeping our language clean and treating everyone on the pitch in a loving and a respectful way (and off it too, as linesmen aren’t actually allowed on the pitch, but we want to respect them too).
Basically we seek to honour God and play in a way that reflects what he has done for us, so that everyone who doesn’t yet know Jesus will see something different about us, whether they are on our or the opposing team.
To date, the mens’ team have won the league once, finished runner-up twice and won the league cup twice in succession. The girls’ team have reached the final and semi-final of the London District Churches Tournament.
