Do you have to be young to go?
We’re not one of those ball pit pools where only the young ones are allowed to have fun. Although our target audience is 16 to 26, we attract a lot of people outside of that range, with adults, kids and people in their 60s coming along. Some of our mid-week events, such as rejuvenate and diesel, are tailored specifically for people outside of that age range. So you definitely won’t be out of place or turned away, no matter what your age is.
Want to find out more about things for your age? Check out our Youth & Twenties section, Adults or Kids – whichever one applies. It could be that you’re in all 3. If you were about 29.
Do you have to be a Christian to go?
Not at all. Come and see what it’s all about.
How long does Church on a Sunday go on for?
Church starts at 6.30pm and usually finishes at 8pm, although sometimes it overruns. We haven’t been the best timekeepers in the past and sometimes Church finishing late has been our fault, but other times God has been doing stuff and we didn’t want to interfere with that.
We always have something after Church. If it’s the first or third Sunday of the month, we’d love you to stay for Escape, a time of relaxing and socialising afterwards. Whether it’s playing table tennis, Wii, having some general chit-chat or chilling out in our café eating a toastie or three, we hope we have something to help you slow down. It’s free too.
Extended prayer occurs when it isn’t Escape, and is a time of prayer, worship and reflection. Someone will lead us in our praying, which can often be quite creative - we like to keep things fresh. There will normally be a chance to receive prayer for any situations in your life you would like to offer up to God, or for any healing you would like. Both finish at 9.15pm.
How long are your talks?
A typical talk will be around 30 minutes. Sometimes though, when we have really engaging and funny guest speakers such as Tre Sheppard, we let them go on for longer. Time flies when you’re having fun.
What is the dress code?
We dress informally – hardly anyone will be wearing a suit. It’s okay to wear hats at re:gen too. Pretty much, as long as you are decent, anything goes.
Is there a seating plan?
We don’t have a seating plan at all. We encourage people who go to our Church to sit in a different seat each week to break tradition and get a different perspective on things, so don’t worry about sitting in a seat someone has sat in for 50 years. It won’t happen (we haven’t been around for 50 years).
We do, however, want everyone to sit as close to the front as possible. It’s much better and more encouraging for people giving the talk when the closest person isn’t sitting in row Z, and seeing as the Church gets pretty full these days, it’s easier for people coming late to find a seat if everyone is sat forward.
Will I be made to give some money?
If you’re visiting, even if you’re from another Church, there is absolutely no obligation to give. If you consider yourself to be a member of re:generation, we encourage you to give as the Bible tells us, generously and cheerfully, with 10% of what you earn being a kind of benchmark.
No one from re:gen is going to be keeping a record of what you give individually, besides you, so there should be no need to feel pressured or embarrassed about it.
Do I have to say anything?
Only if you want to. Some of our talks are interactive and promote discussion in pairs or small groups, which are then sometimes fed back into the talk, so you could share what you discussed then.
Unlike some other Churches, we don’t have what they call ‘liturgy’ or taking it in turns between the speaker and congregation to read a set passage of text from a book, so no need to worry about saying any of that wrong.
Will you make me dance or sing?
No. During some of the more energetic songs we play, you might see a few people dancing, but that doesn’t mean we expect you to.
As for singing, there will be time spent doing this as a Church in two sets of worship. You don’t have to sing the songs – you could just read the words or watch the musicians playing their instruments. We encourage people to stand as they are able, but this is of course optional.
Is it ok to leave?
It’s fine if you need to leave at any time and for any reason. We don’t lock all the doors until the end or anything like that.
How do I become a member?
We don’t have official membership at re:gen, only membership of the heart. Simply put, if you want to be a member, you are.
